Coherent beliefs are not always types

چکیده
For two interacting agents, we construct a space of nature states S and a coherent Ž . hierarchy of beliefs s-additive probability measures of one agent about S, about S and the beliefs of the other agent about S, and so on—a hierarchy that has no s-additive coherent extension over S and the hierarchies of the other agent. Thus, this hierarchy of beliefs w cannot be the description of the beliefs of some type in some Harsanyi Harsanyi, J.C., 1967–1968. Games with incomplete information played by Bayesian players, parts I, II, and x III. Man. Sc. 14, 159–182, 320–334, 486–502 type space. Therefore, the space C of coherent hierarchies over S properly contains the universal space T of ‘all possible types’ over S. We show how to extract T out of C in a transfinite process. q 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Topology-Free Typology of Beliefs
In their seminal paper, Mertens and Zamir (1985) proved the existence of a universal Harsanyi type space which consists of all possible types. Their method of proof depends crucially on topological assumptions. Whether such assumptions are essential to the existence of a universal space remained an open problem. We answer it here by proving that a universal type space does exist even when space...
متن کاملUse of Cohesive Ties in English as a Foreign Language Students’ Writing
This study aims to understand certain linguistic and semantic resources for the text construction, namely the constructs of cohesion, coherence. The analysis of cohesive ties was conducted on the writing samples of 40 subjects (20 most coherent and 20 least coherent) Iranian undergraduates of English. This prompted us to identify the dominant types of cohesive devices used in most coherent writ...
متن کاملBeliefs about the causes and solutions to obesity: a comparison of GPs and lay people.
OBJECTIVE To explore general practitioners (GPs') beliefs about the causes and solutions to obesity, to compare them to those held by a lay sample and to assess the role of beliefs about causes in explaining beliefs about solutions. METHODS Questionnaires regarding the causes and solutions to obesity were completed by GPs (n=73) and a lay sample (n=311). RESULTS GPs generally believe that o...
متن کاملتجربه گونه های مرگ در زندگی در مثنوی معنوی
Based on Mowlavi’s (Rumi) Mathnavi, death is not a sudden event that terminates man’s life. It is an event that continues throughout a lifetime. People experience it many times and in different forms before they actually die. This claims is rooted in Mowlavi’s beliefs that there are stages and types for death. Based on Mowlavi’s Mathnavi, sleep, evolution, changes in "Continual Creation", and d...
متن کاملNo decision about me without me: concordance operationalised.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To demonstrate that concordance can be operationalised to the benefit of patients. Concordance can be understood as a composite of knowledge, health beliefs and collaboration. BACKGROUND In discussing any clinical decision, it would be ideal if different views could be incorporated to reach the most coherent decision. This is a definition of concordance, a widely agreed id...
